New Steam Controller Has a Funny Easter Egg That Makes It Scream When It Falls
Valve launched the new Steam Controller less than 10 days ago. It is a redesigned version of the original model and comes with features that push its price up to 99 dollars.
Even getting one is difficult, because it sold out in less than an hour. To buy it now, users have to place a reservation, just like what is expected with the Steam Machine and Steam Frame. But the controller also hides another surprise that makes the 99 dollars price feel even smaller.
Valve’s New Steam Controller Includes a Hidden Sound Trick
A Reddit user discovered that the new Steam Controller can actually scream when it falls onto a soft surface. In a video, the user drops the controller onto a bed, and it plays the famous Wilhelm scream.
The most surprising part is that the Steam Controller does not include a built-in speaker. According to reports, the sound is produced through the haptic motors built into the gamepad itself.
Valve reportedly hid the famous Wilhelm scream inside the Steam Controller using those haptic motors.
To activate this Easter Egg, the controller must be used in Steam’s Big Picture mode, and it should be dropped onto a soft surface to avoid damaging it. The controller then makes the scream sound as if it is suffering from the fall.
This detail has already been confirmed by PCGamer and by other Reddit users. Anyone who owns one of the new Steam Controllers can try it themselves.
