The Japanese computer manufacturing firm Green House has introduced its new portable solid state drive which will run on the USB 3.0 interface. The drive measures in at a small size of just 79 (W) x 137.5 (D) x 12.5 (H) mm and it weights just 140g. The benefits of a drive such as this one over a mechanical portable hard drive is that the SSD memory is much more resistant to shocks and drops and is thus more reliable for portable use where it will be constantly moved around.
Green House claims peak read speeds of about 220mb/s and peak write speeds of 180mb/s through the USB 3.0 interface. The portable SSD’s will be offered in three sizes, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB using MLC NAND flash memory chips but the controller used has not been disclosed. The Model name of these drives will be the GH-SSDE-U3A and Green House is not commenting onto the price until it officially sends its new drives to the shelves.
