Love it or hate it, Kinect isn’t going anyway, it sold 8 million units in its first 60 days on the market, earning it the Guinness World Record of being the “fastest selling consumer electronics device”. Which means Microsoft thinks it’s the best thing ever. I own a Kinect, the technology is superb, the arm flailing is hilarious and it knocks the Wii into oblivion.
Kinect 2 would be a standard fare upgrade, better resolution cameras and it is said Microsoft have made it usable from inches away with only minor tweaks to the current Kinect, already boasting finger tip controls and up to 4 person simultaneous, I’m sure the standard Kinect could support that, what they really need is more CPU time, so Microsoft is said to be giving the Kinect it’s own built in CPU, something they had hoped to do with the original Kinect.
Rumours are also abound that the new controller will features a touch screen in the centre of the pad, much like the Wii-U but I’m going to guess more like the Dreamcast controller but with a bigger screen. I personally think this rumour is a load of rubbish, I’m prepared to eat my hat if I’m wrong.
It makes sense that to keep cost down, keep fans happy and backwards compatibility easy, they won’t change a single thing on the controller beyond the logo.
