Overwatch, despite being 2 years old now, is still (at least in my opinion) one of the best team-based first-person-shooters out there. The fantastic combination of a bright and vivid design with a fantastically varied roster makes it something very different compared to many other releases. Perhaps though, one of the best things about the game is the regular content Blizzard provides. To date, this has been large, good, and also (and perhaps best of all) free!
With a new update shortly on the way, a report via PCGamesN suggests something very unusual for it. Put simply, you may need to completely re-install the game!
It seems weird and I honestly can’t think of an instance before (in any game) where an update has required a complete re-installation. It is, however, suggested that the new update is adding more than simple fixes or additions. Rumours suggest that the update is going to provide a near-complete overhaul of many aspects of the game. Particularly those in the interface. Whatever it is, it’s clearly significant enough to require you to re-install the game!
Blizzard has said: “The number of back-end changes we’re putting in is substantial enough that we can’t just patch over the current content efficiently. As a result, when the next patch comes out, the client will fully reinstall itself to handle these changes.”
Sadly, this seems more than likely. If you’re having to completely re-install the game, the update is undoubtedly going to be built into this new ‘release version’. This may, of course, represent a problem to those of you who have slow or download limits. If you do, you might want to start living a big frugally.
