Nexus 4 Gets A Chassis Update

Since the Nexus 4 was released late last year, trying to get hold of one of these sought after handsets has been in some cases a case of waiting. I would know – I waited three weeks for the handset to become available on Google Play after which it seemed to be only in stock for a day or so before all the handsets had been claimed. This goes to show that even though there are newer handsets such as the Galaxy S IV on the market, the Nexus 4 still holds a strong following amongst Android users.

Since it came out however, there does seem to have been one point in its design that many users have pointed out, including myself. Both sides of the handset are covered in glass and this sits slightly higher over the plastic frame that goes around the LG made handset. Whilst this itself is not a bad thing and it feels great to hold onto, it appears that the shiny glass back is well too shiny and as I’ve found out for myself, if you place the phone on a surface that is not totally level, its slick glass back starts to let the phone slide off the surface its sat on.

As this point has been mentioned by many users, LG have made a little revision to the design and new users will now find a series of little raised nubs on the back of the phone that lift the glass of the surface that its sat on just a fraction to stop the sliding. This is not all though as by raising the back up a little will also prevent to glass from getting scratched as easily and will also give better sound quality by opening up the rear mounted speaker a little more.

It just goes to show that given feedback, phone manufacturers do listen and respond to what the consumer wants, in this case a simple method of stopping the phone sliding. After all Google and LG don’t want sales of the popular Android handset to drop because its ‘too slick’.
