Nintendo Believes There Are No Limits to What It Can Achieve
Nintendo has always been a company that refuses to set limits and is willing to try new paths, even when those paths might seem unusual at first glance. Just think of Nintendo Labo, a set of cardboard accessories that allow users to experience the Nintendo Switch in creative ways, or the Nintendo Wii, a console built entirely around motion controls using a remote-shaped controller.
According to Shigeru Miyamoto, game designer and executive at Nintendo, what drives the company to pursue these unique directions is the belief that there are no limits to what it can achieve with the right effort.
Miyamoto’s Words on Innovation
“Nintendo has always worked with the idea that there are no limits to our efforts,” Miyamoto said during a recent financial conference. “For example, when we tried our hand at movies with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, its success was compared to the box office revenues of other movies. However, even if the movie topped the rankings, we would think there was more room for growth.”
Miyamoto believes that some of Nintendo’s intellectual properties could see their sales numbers “potentially reach beyond the boundaries of entertainment.”
Endless Possibilities for Nintendo’s Future
Miyamoto explained that he now views entertainment as a space without limits or boundaries. In his perspective, there are still many parts of the world where Nintendo can grow and reach new audiences, especially through the Nintendo Switch. He emphasized that what makes Nintendo special is its openness to experiment and take on any idea — a company culture that encourages creativity and exploration without fear of failure.
Finally, it’s worth noting that Nintendo plans to acquire more development teams to strengthen itself.
