Nintendo Confirms Switch Online Will Continue to Be Available on Nintendo Switch 2

Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo, confirmed during a Q&A session related to the company’s latest financial report that Nintendo Switch Online will continue to be available on Nintendo Switch 2.
This statement (thanks Nintendo Life) was made in response to a question about Nintendo’s future online strategies, particularly concerning the new console set to launch by the end of 2025, though an exact release date has not been announced yet.
Stable Subscription Numbers and Future Plans
Furukawa also mentioned that Nintendo will continue providing comprehensive services to ensure users have the best experience with their console. Additionally, he provided an updated figure on the number of subscribers, confirming that the total remains around 34 million. Specifically, he stated that there have been no significant changes, and the count has remained at 34 million since last September, indicating stability even during the holiday season.
Regarding the recent playtest of new Nintendo Switch Online features, Furukawa noted that the company plans to use the results to shape future service initiatives. However, at the moment, there are no new announcements.
Nintendo has consistently updated Nintendo Switch Online, regularly adding games from its older platforms and enabling online features for various titles. It remains to be seen whether Nintendo Switch 2 will bring a refreshed version of the service with additional features.
