Nintendo Reportedly Suffers Data Breach, Company Yet to Confirm
Hacker groups are one of the biggest problems for modern companies, and now it seems that Nintendo has also been hacked. Specifically, the Crimson Collective claims to have breached Nintendo’s servers and obtained various internal contents.
The information comes from the cyber intelligence platform Hackamanac, which “tracks verified, real-world cyber attacks to help you develop effective Cybersecurity strategies.”
Details of the Alleged Nintendo Breach
According to the source, Crimson Collective shared a folder called “Nintendo Topic Files” and claims to have accessed several types of data. The Kyoto-based company has not yet confirmed or denied this claim, so for now, it’s best to take the news with caution. It is also possible that the hacker group is not telling the truth.
However, it’s worth noting that Crimson Collective has recently managed to attack other companies, so it’s not impossible that they have successfully targeted Nintendo as well. In October, the group reportedly attacked Red Hat and stole 570 GB of data. Red Hat confirmed the breach and stated that Crimson Collective demanded a ransom for the stolen information.
What Could Happen Next
If the attack on Nintendo turns out to be real, it is likely that Crimson Collective will follow the same procedure and demand a payment. For now, we can only wait for further updates on the situation.
In other news, if Nintendo hadn’t ended its collaboration with Sony, PlayStation might never have existed, says former Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida.
