Nintendo Switch 2 to Feature Battery Life Extension for the First Time
Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 will introduce a new feature aimed at extending the life of its battery. This function has been available in various devices for some time, including iPhones, iPads, Android devices, and certain laptops. The feature is designed to help prevent battery degradation over time.
New Battery Option on Switch 2
On the main menu of the Switch 2, users will find a new option in the system settings called “Stop charging around 90%.” This option, commonly found on other devices, helps reduce battery wear by stopping the charge before it reaches 100%. By turning this option on, the battery’s lifespan can be extended.
The system itself explains that enabling this feature may reduce the amount of time you can use the console without being plugged in. However, it helps reduce the long-term wear on the battery. Even when enabled, the system can still charge to 100% when needed to show the correct battery level.
This is the first Nintendo console to include such a feature. Older consoles, including the various Switch versions and the Nintendo 3DS, did not have this option, nor did accessories like the Wii U controller.
Nintendo’s Sales Goals for Switch 2
Nintendo plans to launch the Switch 2 on June 5 in Spain and globally. The company has set a target of selling 15 million units before the end of the fiscal year on March 31, 2026. This is similar to the sales goal set for the original Switch, which has sold over 152 million units as of March 31.
