Since the Nintendo Switch was unveiled, speculation regarding the device’s hardware capabilities and other essential features has been discussed. Evidently, the trailer answered some questions about the unit’s form factor but also raised many others which should be addressed on January 12th. Saying that, the picture is beginning to unfold and further details were provided in a report by Eurogamer. Apparently, the Nintendo Switch will opt for a 6.2″ multi-touch display with a 720P resolution. This is what was expected but it’s good to have some kind of credible source clarifying the rumours.
The 720P display should be ample given the 6.2″ screen size and look quite sharp. Also, the core experience seems to be on a TV which means the tablet’s resolution isn’t going to determine the enjoyment factor at home. Given the extremely low resolution on the 3DS, it’s going be a good improvement for Nintendo fans and I personally think 720P does the job. Also, the multi-touch interface could be useful to play mobile indie titles and add a few neat features to first-party exclusives. Although, I hope Nintendo doesn’t focus on this too much which could lead to gimmicky elements.
