After months of speculation regarding Nintendo’s latest console, they finally delivered and displayed the aptly named Nintendo Switch in a rather impressive trailer. As I’m sure you’re aware, the console is a tablet/home hybrid which allows the end-user to detach the tablet and play games on-the-move. Interestingly, the processing power is done by the tablet and it seems the docking station has been designed for storage or charging purposes. Of course, the Wii U was based on a tablet form factor and suffered from horrendous battery life. In fact, it was recommended for users to purchase a higher capacity battery and replace the internal one to enjoy longer periods of gameplay. Rather shockingly, the default battery tended to deplete fully after 2-2.5 hours.
Even though this isn’t confirmed, two sources have claimed that the Nintendo Switch’s battery leaves a lot to be desired. Laura Kate Dale says that insiders have described the battery life as “mediocre”:
According to comments she received from Ubisoft, the tablet’s battery life could last a maximum of 3-hours. If true, this is extremely disappointing and going to deter users from using the tablet controller. Not only that, it only makes it suitable for short journeys and not long-haul flights.
