Nintendo Switch Is About to Become the Second Best-Selling Console of All Time
Nintendo Switch is on the verge of becoming the second best-selling console in history. On February 3, Nintendo will release updated financial reports, which will officially confirm that the Switch has surpassed the Nintendo DS in total sales.
According to the latest figures, Nintendo Switch has sold 154.01 million units, compared to 154.02 million for the Nintendo DS. It’s clear that over the past few months, the hybrid console has managed to close that small gap.
On February 3, the Japanese company will officially recognize the Nintendo Switch as its most successful platform ever, surpassing even the legendary handheld DS.
A New Milestone in Gaming History
Depending on the upcoming report, it remains to be seen whether the Switch can sell a few million more units to catch up with the PlayStation 2, which still holds the top spot with around 160 million units sold.
This milestone highlights how the Switch’s hybrid nature — combining portable and home console features — has continued to attract players worldwide since its launch in 2017.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch 2 has already surpassed total sales of three different consoles in the UK: the Wii U, Dreamcast, and PlayStation Vita. Based on current projections and fast-paced sales growth, the new hybrid console could also climb the global rankings soon.
Official data shows that the Nintendo Switch 2 has already sold 10.36 million units, and analysts believe that it could soon approach the 13.56 million mark — the total sales achieved by the Wii U.
We’ll find out more on February 3, when Nintendo reveals the updated figures. One thing is certain: the Switch brand continues to dominate the gaming world, generation after generation.
