Nintendo Switch Is Officially Nintendo’s Best-Selling Console Ever
Nintendo Switch has officially become the best-selling console in Nintendo’s history, surpassing the Nintendo DS. The milestone was confirmed with the latest sales update, which shows that, as of December 31, 2025, Nintendo Switch has sold 155.37 million units worldwide. In the last quarter alone, the console added 1.36 million units.
Nintendo Switch Becomes Nintendo’s Best-Selling Console Ever
With these numbers, Nintendo Switch has overtaken the Nintendo DS, which is no longer in production and therefore has no chance of reclaiming the top spot.
Here is the updated ranking of Nintendo’s best-selling consoles:
- Nintendo Switch – 155.37 million
- Nintendo DS – 154.02 million
- Game Boy – 118.69 million
- Wii – 101.56 million
- Game Boy Advance – 81.51 million
This achievement further confirms the long-term success of Nintendo Switch, which has remained strong across multiple hardware revisions and years on the market.
The overall ranking of the best-selling consoles of all time has also changed:
- PlayStation 2 – 160.63 million
- Nintendo Switch – 155.37 million
- Nintendo DS – 154.02 million
- Game Boy – 118.69 million
- PlayStation 4 – 117.2 million
- PlayStation – 102.49 million
Nintendo Switch is now just over 5 million units behind PlayStation 2. If sales continue at a steady pace, it could overtake Sony’s console as early as 2026, although a slowdown could push that milestone to 2027.
As for Nintendo Switch 2, the road ahead is still long. Given its higher price and the current market conditions, it will be difficult for the new console to match the extraordinary results achieved by the original Switch.
