Nintendo Wants to Acquire More Development Teams to Strengthen Itself
It’s a positive time for Nintendo, which has entered the new generation with energy and is clearly looking toward the future, aiming for success equal to or greater than the previous one.
However, the Nintendo Switch 2 will need many high-quality games to succeed, and there is always room to strengthen its production chain.
Nintendo explained during its financial meeting that it plans to improve game development by expanding its internal capabilities.
Nintendo’s Expansion Plans
More specifically, the company said it wants to “strengthen the internal game development organization within the Nintendo group.”
To achieve this, it plans to acquire development companies as subsidiaries and expand its development facilities, including the construction of the Corporate Headquarters Development Center Building No. 2 (tentative name).
A Look at Nintendo’s Acquisition Strategy
Based on Nintendo’s past behavior, it’s likely the company will continue to acquire teams that, while not officially part of Nintendo, already work almost exclusively with it and have proven their skill and reliability over several projects.
Nintendo usually isn’t very open about the possibility of acquiring teams, often saying it prefers to expand naturally.
However, it seems credible that Nintendo’s future plans include more acquisitions—similar to when it bought Next Level Games in 2021, after that studio worked on titles such as Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, and Luigi’s Mansion 3.
