Nintendo Wins Legal Battle Against Piracy, Forces Closure of French Hosting Site
Nintendo continues its ongoing fight against piracy and has recently won an important legal battle against the French company Dstorage. This victory, according to Nintendo, is seen as a significant win for the entire gaming industry.
The Legal Victory Against Dstorage
Dstorage was accused of managing a collection of pirated software on the website 1fichier.com, which had been subject to repeated closure requests by Nintendo. The legal victory has likely brought an end to this issue.
The significance of this result relates to its potential impact on similar cases. Following Nintendo’s win, companies that run hosting services could now be held accountable for pirated software archives on their platforms.
The Impact of the Decision

Previously, Nintendo had secured a fine of €935,000 against Dstorage as compensation for the pirated games found on the site, but the matter didn’t end there. The French company appealed to the highest court in France, arguing that a specific court order was required to remove the content from its hosting services. However, in the end, the court ruled in Nintendo’s favor.
“Nintendo is pleased with the court’s finding of liability against Dstorage,” said a statement from the company (thanks Eurogamer). “The French Supreme Court leaves no doubt that sharehosting providers like 1fichier.com are not a safe haven for storing and sharing illegal content.”
Nintendo also emphasized its commitment to promoting development and creativity, supporting developers who create legitimate, innovative software. The company warned consumers against downloading pirated games, as it increases the risk of interfering with the features and overall experience of legitimate games on authentic Nintendo hardware.
