Nioh 3 PC Performance Tested Across Multiple Resolutions

Nioh 3 is one of the most anticipated PC releases of the month. The game arrives with very high system requirements, raising the question of whether those demands are realistic or exaggerated. A new performance test shared by DSOGaming helps clarify the situation, including detailed CPU scaling results.

CPU And GPU Performance Analysis

With a dual-core, two-thread CPU, Nioh 3 runs at an average of just 3 FPS, making it unplayable. Using two cores and four threads improves performance significantly, reaching 68 FPS on average. With six cores and six threads, the game scales correctly and reaches 117 FPS, while moving to eight cores and sixteen threads only increases the average slightly to 120 FPS.

At 1080p with maximum settings, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti achieves an average of 55 FPS. To maintain a stable 60 FPS, a Radeon RX 6900 XT or GeForce RTX 3080 is required.

At 1440p, the RTX 2080 Ti drops to 36 FPS, while the RTX 3080 reaches 49 FPS. The Radeon RX 9070 XT delivers 70 FPS, the GeForce RTX 5080 reaches 89 FPS, and the GeForce RTX 5090 hits 120 FPS, which is the game’s frame rate cap.

At 4K resolution, the GeForce RTX 4090 manages 60 FPS, while any weaker GPU falls below 50 FPS. The RTX 5080 averages 49 FPS, the Radeon RX 9070 XT stays at 39 FPS, and the RTX 5090 leads with 81 FPS on average.

The minimum and recommended system requirements were not exaggerated. Nioh 3 is a very demanding game, even though it does not use Unreal Engine 5. Instead, it runs on Katana Engine, a custom engine developed specifically for the game.

The title also supports upscaling technologies, which can be used to improve performance when needed, especially at higher resolutions.
