San Francisco, California metro riders were rudely awoken when they had no signal on their metro services underground yesterday.
“The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) District said Friday that it cut phone services out of safety concerns. ‘Organizers planning to disrupt BART service on August 11, 2011 stated they would use mobile devices to coordinate their disruptive activities and communicate about the location and number of BART Police,’ BART said in a statement posted to its website.’ “
This service disruption also cut off essential services for emergency 911 as well as any other emergency services. Cell phone signals had ceased to exist in the metro. Scary, isn’t it, to think that the police are now controlling crowds via disrupting communication. Sounds like it is time for San Francisco to rethink their police control.
