noblechairs ICON TX Anthracite Fabric Gaming Chair Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The noblechairs range is one of the more expensive choices on the market. At least, in relation to the wider gaming chair market. The noblechairs ICON TX is currently £339.95 + shipping, which is pretty much what a noblechairs product has always cost, give or take a little. The synthetic leather version is the same price but comes in a choice of five colours here. The hybrid synthetic leather is available in two colours for £394.99. However, the real leather version is £529.99. It’s not really about which is better, but more about which finish you prefer. Personally, I have always had the PU leather models, but the fabric is a welcome alternative.

Overview

noblechairs are one of the most loved and respected names in the gaming world. They’ve got many of the best chairs out there right now, and speaking from personal experience with many of their products over the years, some of the finest build quality too. I’ve got some of their chairs in the office for many years now, and they’re still going strong and looking as good as new. While I suspect the fabric may wear and stain more than a leather model, I think that’s a given, and so long as you factor that into your lifestyle and how you care for the chair, it should be fine. Just don’t let your cat sit on it and stretch its claws all the time.

Despite going for a lighter fabric, the chair certainly isn’t any lighter. The core build quality is still a robust steel frame that feels strong enough to be architectural. All noblechairs are about twice as heavy as rival brands. Alas, they’re also about twice the price, but I can tell you now, you’re paying for more materials, and the end result is a better-built chair, it’s as simple as that.

What is surprising though is how effortless the chair is to move around. It may be big and bulky, but the 60mm castors make easy work of it, just be wary of the increased force that weight adds when you’re spinning around in the chair. The same goes for the tilting and rocking mechanism, it’s all very smooth and quiet. A lot of chairs tend to click and creak when adjusted, but not the ICON TX.

The range of adjustment is excellent though, from sitting bolt upright to fully laid back, it’s really up to you. You can tilt the seat as well as the backrest, and then lock the seat angle in place, giving it a more bucket-seat feel, which is awesome. Throw in those fantastic 4D armrests, the optional cushions and those lovely soft padded bolsters, and you’re going to find yourself getting very comfortable in the ICON TX.

And already since it’s been built, my son wants it for his Birthday (good luck with that), I want one for my office, my partner wants one for her office, and my daughter won’t get off it… school holidays are fun! Alas, I’m not made of money, but it’s good to see the chair gets a thumbs up all around.

It’s a bigger investment than many other gaming chairs, but I can personally attest to the fact that a noblechair will outlive lesser rivals. As the saying goes “buy cheap, buy twice.” I’ll admit though, it’s not the kind of investment everyone can afford, but at the same time, the value for money is clear with this chair, you’re getting a level of quality and features that’s a cut above the competition. Plus, with a choice of materials and finishes, and the fabric being available on other noblechairs like the HERO and the EPIC too, you can easily find the noblechairs that best suits your style. I know which one I want in my life but otherwise, I’d be getting the ICON TX!
