Noctua NL-LC1-42 420mm AIO Cooler Review

Noctua is one of the leading name for high-performance coolers and innovation, albeit even they’ll admit they’re also one of the slowest to release new products. They tend to reveal a product, then delay it for years, until their absolutely certain that the product meets their strict standards for performance, but also long-term reliability. The extreme levels of R&D are the primary factor in Noctua’s higher prices, followed in a close second by their relentless focus on using premium materials and components. Now, the Noctua NL-LC1-42 is here at long last, as as their other AIO coolers. This one is a 420mm all-in-one liquid cooler designed for high-performance systems using AMD AM5 or Intel LGA1851/1700 processors. By integrating Noctua’s signature engineering approach with the reliable Asetek Emma V2 platform, this cooler targets enthusiasts who require superior performance, but still want Noctua’s relentless focus on quiet performance.

Features and Performance

The core innovation of the NL-LC1-42 is the integration of the NL-PNA1 pump noise absorber, which utilises a three-layer acoustic soundproofing structure and a tuned-mass damper to minimise both airborne noise and structural vibrations. This is complemented by three of the award-winning NF-A14x25 G2 fans, which incorporate a speed-offset to prevent harmonic resonances and ensure a smooth sound profile. Users are provided with three selectable pump speed profiles, Quiet, Balanced, and Manual, allowing for precise control over the noise and performance. The inclusion of the SecuFirm2+ mounting system ensures that the installation is straightforward and that contact pressure is optimised for modern high-heat processors like the latest X3D chips and Intels flagships.

Specifications

The NL-LC1-42 features a substantial 420mm radiator designed to provide maximum surface area for heat dissipation. The pump unit is built on the proven Asetek Emma V2 foundation, while the massive radiator is obviously meant to help shift significant amounts of heat from high TDP processors, even when used with lower RPM fan modes. Just keep in mind, the 420mm version will only be supported in some cases, so be sure to check with your case manufacturer if a larger cooler will fit.
