Noctua present three new NF-S12A series 120mm case fans

Noctua NF-S12A Series Fan

Noctua are always busy working away behind the scenes trying to develop new and improved fans for the enthusiast market. Noctua’s latest innovation is the third instalment of its S12 series of quiet case fans which has received over 250 awards globally from the press. What is impressive is that Noctua are claiming an additional 8% of noise-to-airflow efficiency versus older versions of the same fan. This improved efficiency has been brought about by a further refined blade design with anti-stall knobs that work in tandem with the new AAO (advanced acoustic optimisation) frame. A brief explanation on how this new technology works can be seen below:

“The NF-S12A’s novel Anti-Stall Knobs reduce flow separation phenomena in medium to high impedance situations and thereby increase the fan’s stall margin. This means that the NF-S12A is even more versatile than its renowned predecessor and can achieve better performance on heatsinks and radiators. Noctua’s AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimisation) frames feature integrated anti-vibration pads as well as Noctua’s proprietary Stepped Inlet Design and Inner Surface Microstructures, both of which further refine the fan’s performance/noise efficiency.”

Noctua NF-S12A PWM

As usual Noctua are going to be coming to market with their traditional “trio” of offerings to give the consumer maximum choice and application flexibility. The NF-S12A FLX fan comes with a fixed fan speed of 1200RPM at stock or 900/700RPM using the supplied low noise adapters. The NF-S12A ULN comes with a fixed speed of 800RPM at stock or 600RPM with the supplied low noise adapter for really noise sensitive applications. Finally the NF-S12A PWM comes with a 4 pin PWM connector and has a variable speed of between 300 and 1200RPM or 300 and 900RPM with the supplied low noise adapter.

As always Noctua are promising their trademark high quality manufacturing, their standard, but still impressive, 6 year full manufacturer’s warranty and a MTBF (mean time before failure) rate of 150,000 hours. The new NF-S12A fans will be available immediately at recommended retail prices of €19.90 / $21.90. Keep your eyes peeled as we should have a review of these new case fans from Noctua within the next month or so.
