Noontec Hammo Wireless Pro Monitor Headphones Review

A Closer Look

Cables

The cable quality is superb, and while any standard cable will get the job done, this one should withstand lots of usage. The cable is strong, and the flat design makes it easy to route, keeps in tangle free, and looks great.

The header is gold plated, and comes with a durable metal housing around the connections, with an anti-break rubber grommet.

Inside the protective carry case, you’ll find the headset is folded away nice and safe. It’s great for protecting the headset when you’re travelling, or even storing at home. After all, you don’t want to throw your fancy new headset in the drawer with all your other tech-junk, do you?

Design

Noontec headphones all tend to look somewhat similar, and the same is true here. The headset looks like a larger version of their gorgeous ZORO II headphones, albeit with an around the ear, rather than an on-the-ear fitment. The material choices are superb too, and anything made from plastic feels incredibly durable. As you can see, there’s a gorgeous satin finish tooalsohich just oozes quality. The golden Noontec badges on the headband and the ear cups are all metal too and look fantastic.

Close and Comfortable

Each ear cup is mounted on a small pivot, which allows for a few degree of movement both horizontally and vertically. Of course, this movement will help the headset fit better around your ears, making it more comfortable while blocking more unwanted external noise.

The drivers use a closed back design, so they do tend to lock in a lot of noise, as well as block a lot out. This is great for using them in a noisy environment. However, don’t expect them to be completely restrictive, you can still hear your surroundings, it just dampens the sound heavily. The closed design does help tighten up the bass response from the drivers though, which is no bad thing if you like a deeper low-end to your sound.

Toasty Leather

The padding on the ear cups has a soft black leather finish, so it closes around your ear really well. The memory foam padding is soft too, but there’s little to no airflow, so your ears can get a bit toasty if you’re in a warm room. Of course, warm ears is a small trade-off for a more locked in and comfortable fit when choosing leather pads.

Connectivity

I’m a big music fan and audio enthusiast and love listening to my favourite albums and movies with the best technology at my disposal. Of course, that’s not always headphones, and big floor standing speakers, Dolby Atmos channels, and studio headphones are all given a fair share of my listening habits each day. On top of that, I’m also a guitarist and video editor, so I spend plenty of time plugging into various mixing programs for playback and editing.

With all that in mind, I need a headset that can do it all, as I pretty much avoid having multiple headsets on my desk so I can easily switch between tasks. The Hammo certainly fit my requirements here, being able to hook into my headphone amp or my guitar effect channel in wired mode. At my desktop, Bluetooth works great and pairs up very quickly. One thing I have begun to enjoy is pairing it with my Amazon Echo Dot, using it to stream music from Prime Music while I’m busy around the office.

Controlling Your Audio

In wired mode, you’ll need to rely on the controls on your audio device, amp, mobile, etc. However, if you’re using them in wireless mode, then you can use the Bluetooth controls on the side of the ear cups. There’s a master power control, handy for saving battery when they’re not in use. There are two more buttons, which allow you to tweak the volume levels, or skip tracks. Of course, if you’re listening to music on your phone, this means you can leave your phone in your pocket and still take control of your playlist.

EQ

Some may try these headphones and think they sound a little flat, but far from it in my opinion. Many consumer headphones boost certain frequencies, and for music production or audiophiles, that’s a massive nope. The balanced response means you can listen to audio as the creator intended. Of course, if you’re the creator, it’s how you intend it to sound. There’s plenty of capability in the drivers though, and if you drive heavy bass through them they keep up with ease, and remain free from distortion. Mid-ranges are full of detail, and the treble is sharp as a pin, even when the bass is thumping.

Those who want to EQ their headset will find it handles it really well too. For music playback, just the slightest nudge up on the mid-range brings out a huge amount of warmth and detail. Music production may be their forte, but kicking back with a few album at home or on the go, watching a movie, playing games, are all handled perfectly.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
