NVIDIA Acknowledges RTX 50 Series “Black Screen” Issue, Investigating Fix

The “black screen” issue appears to be quite common with the latest RTX 50 series graphics cards. The problem has been reported by many users, prompting NVIDIA to acknowledge the issue and confirm that they are investigating a solution.
Some users believe this could be a permanent issue, raising concerns due to the high price of these GPUs. Others speculate that the problem might be related to PCIe 5.0 connections or driver issues.
NVIDIA Responds But Offers No Clear Explanation
At this stage, it is unclear whether all cases stem from the same cause, but the latest update confirms that NVIDIA is aware of the situation and working on a fix.
NVIDIA responded to PC Gamer with a brief statement: “We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.” However, they did not specify the exact nature of the problem.
Reports suggest that the issue mainly affects the NVIDIA RTX 5080 and 5090, the only Blackwell-based GPUs currently available. Users have reported experiencing a black screen after installing the new GPU, but the trigger varies: some experience it when changing resolution, others under high load, and some when using multi-monitor setups.
Possible Causes and Workarounds
The variety of scenarios makes diagnosing the root cause even more difficult, but NVIDIA is actively working on a fix. Some speculate that the problem could be linked to driver version 572.16, as the issue appeared after its release and has even affected some RTX 40 series GPUs after updating.
As temporary workarounds, users have suggested:
- Using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to remove the latest updates
- Switching to PCIe Gen 4 mode
In other news, the RTX 5080 and 5090 remains difficult to find, with scalpers reportedly inflating prices significantly.
