Nvidia Could Halt RTX 5060 Ti 16GB Production Over High Memory Prices

The graphics card market is once again facing challenges, and this time it’s affecting one of Nvidia’s mid-range models, the RTX 5060 Ti with 16 GB of memory.

Rising VRAM Costs Threaten Production

According to recent reports, this specific model is at real risk of being discontinued or having its production suspended indefinitely due to the increase in VRAM memory costs.

The tech industry is going through a complex period because of rising DRAM prices, which are affecting both DDR5 modules and the newer GDDR7 memory used in Nvidia’s graphics cards. As a result, producing GPUs with 16 GB of GDDR7 memory has become more expensive, and one of the models impacted is the RTX 5060 Ti.

Reports suggest that Nvidia may prioritize memory supply for the RTX 5070 series, which offers a higher profit margin. Consequently, the RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB will remain the standard option on the market, leaving users who need more memory capacity in a difficult position.

Impact on Consumers and Market Trends

The 16 GB variant was seen as the only sensible choice under $450, capable of competing with AMD’s offerings in terms of longevity. If these rumors prove true, consumers may be forced to choose between an 8 GB card, which many consider insufficient for today’s standards, or upgrading to the RTX 5070 series.

Although this information should be taken with caution until an official announcement is made, current market trends suggest that the era of powerful and affordable GPUs with large memory capacity could be coming to an end. Global supply chain issues and rising GDDR7 memory costs are key factors driving this shift.
