Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti to Launch on January 5th?

Late last week, rumours appeared online suggesting that the ‘cancelled’ Nvidia 4080 12GB graphics card was actually now set to make an appearance. Not as a 4080 though, but as the 4070 Ti. – And just on this topic, this wasn’t idle speculation either as the source claimed that the specifications were going to remain exactly the same with the only difference being, well… The name!

While Nvidia does, of course, have the 4090 (and the 4080 16GB set to arrive later this week) the biggest problem most consumers have at the moment (putting AMD to one side) is that there aren’t really any affordable next-gen graphics card options. – Following a report via TechPowerUp, however, if you were hoping that the 4070 Ti was going to be your salvation, it appears that the GPU is set for a firm launch date on January 5th.

In other words, either as part of CES 2023 or a separately coinciding event, we’re around 8 weeks away from finally getting a lower-tier GPU. Even if we have apparently already seen it before!

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti

As we’ve regularly said on this subject, presuming that the 4070 Ti is going to be the rebranded 4080 12GB, this clearly creates something of a problem for Nvidia. – We already know that the original 4080 12GB was going to come with an $899 MSRP and with it now being, at least in name, downgraded to the 4070 Ti, will Nvidia actually retain this price or are they going to drop it to bring it more in line with prior generational launches?

Well, in this regard, I strongly suspect Nvidia’s going to keep the price. They almost have to because if they do lower the price, and keep the same specs, then it’ll only really confirm what we all suspected in the first place. Namely, Nvidia only called it a 4080 to warrant a higher price tag.

Still though, hopefully, Nvidia will do the decent thing with the 4070 Ti. Somehow though, I doubt it.
