Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti May Launch In March

Despite revealing their Pascal lineup nearly a year ago, Nvidia still has more cards up their sleeves. With the Titan X Pascal, Nvidia unveiled their new GP102 die, powering the fastest consumer graphics card on the market. However, the cut-down GP102, the GTX 1080 Ti has been missing since then. This is all reportedly set to end next month in March.

According to a new report, the launch of the GTX 1080 Ti will happen in late March, between the 20th and the 23rd. This is in line with previous reports which pointed to a March reveal. At the time, we thought it might happen at GDC which ends in early March. This means Nvidia will most likely be hosting their own event to reveal the new card.

Using the same GP102 die as the Titan X Pascal, the GTX 1080 Ti will be cut down in size but also cut down in price. Based on past experience, it should have a more affordable price tag and better bang for the buck. It unknown at this point how cut down it will be but it will at least have several SMs lasered off. Reports suggest that the card is already in production and ready to go.

With this extra ‘delay’, it will be interesting to see what AMD offers with their Vega preview at GDC. Since AMD has promised Vega for the 1H 2017, we may see a tight launch frame between the two competitors. If AMD offers a firm date for Vega, it may take some steam out of the GTX 1080 Ti and it will be interesting to see how Nvidia will respond.
