Nvidia Holds 92% of GPU Market Share Despite Modest Gains by AMD and Intel
A new report from Jon Peddie Research (JPR) on the discrete GPU market for the third quarter of 2025 reveals that while Nvidia remains the undisputed leader, AMD and Intel have managed to gain a small share of the market.
Global GPU Market Overview
The global discrete GPU (AIB) market reached $8.8 billion, with a total of 12 million units shipped during the last quarter. This represents a 2.8% increase compared to the previous quarter. JPR notes that this growth was below the historical average, mainly due to “panic buying” in the second quarter of 2025 caused by U.S. tariffs, which shifted some of the expected sales away from Q3.
In terms of market share, Nvidia experienced a slight decline of 1.2%, dropping from 94% to 92%. Despite this small dip, the company continues to hold an overwhelmingly dominant position.
AMD and Intel See Modest Gains
The portion of the market that Nvidia lost was taken by its main rivals. AMD increased its share by 0.8%, reaching 7%, while Intel also saw growth, rising 0.4% to claim 1% of the market.
According to the report, the overall GPU attach rate for desktop PCs stood at 162%. This figure—calculated by dividing the number of discrete GPUs sold by the number of desktop PCs sold—means that, on average, for every 100 computers sold, 162 discrete graphics cards were sold. This percentage above 100% shows that many GPUs are sold as upgrades or for custom builds.
Looking ahead, JPR forecasts steady growth for the segment, estimating that the installed base of discrete GPUs will reach 152 million units by 2029.
