Nvidia Formally Launch 4070 Ti and Upcoming 40XX Laptops!

Nvidia’s CES 2023 showcase has just concluded and overall I must say that I’m more than a little impressed. No, not entirely at the announcements made but more so in the fact that they actually kicked things off with all the ‘good stuff’ rather than making us wait the best part of an hour for the graphics card news!

So, what has been announced? Well, Nvidia hasn’t just confirmed the official launch of the 4070 Ti, but more so, it will indeed be hitting retailers for $799 on January 5th. – And just in case that wasn’t enough, they’ve also (loosely) confirmed the upcoming release of 40XX-based laptop models including both 4090 and 4080 designs!

Nvidia CES 2023 Product Announcements!

Although we didn’t get to see Jensen Huang for this launch, we were treated to Jeff Fisher who, you may recall, has a rather unhealthy fascination with calling Ti ‘tie’. Fortunately, though, he only mentioned it a couple of times here, and, in truth, was rather light on details surrounding the 4070 Ti.

I mean, it’s almost as if Nvidia has already launched this graphics card before *cough* 4080 12GB *cough*. – Joking aside though, the 4070 Ti was discussed for no longer than 2 minutes!

So, I suppose you want to know if the 4070 Ti is, deep down, the cancelled 4080 12GB? Well, in truth, we still don’t know for absolutely certain. Nvidia certainly played it coy by only revealing (at least to my knowledge) specifications which were not confirmed when they originally announced the 4080 12GB. – For all intents and purposes though, it does still seem that the 4070 Ti is simply a rebranded 4080 12GB.

At least it costs $100 less at $799 though! Will it actually hit that price though? Press X to doubt any time soon!

Nvidia 40XX Laptops!

While we did expect news regarding Nvidia 40XX laptops to come at some point over the next month, we’ll freely concede that we didn’t necessarily anticipate it to be made at CES 2023. Announced they were though with Nvidia confirming upcoming laptops featuring a 4090, 4080, 4070, 4060, and 4050 GPU.

With availability set to land in early February for the more potent 4080 and 4090 models and later in the month for the more ‘entry to mid-tier’ focused designs, however, take those suggested ‘starting at’ prices with a grain of salt. – If a 4090 laptop is available for anything close to $1,999, I’ll eat my virtual hat!

Nvidia did, however, confirm that multiple AIB partner designs will be on the way from pretty much all major laptop manufacturers. Albeit, it is unclear at the time of writing whether the 4090 and 4080 models will, at least temporarily, be an Alienware exclusive. Nvidia certainly suggested so during their CES 2023 showcase, but we’ll have to wait and see I guess.

Performance?

In terms of performance for both their laptop GPUs and the 4070 Ti, Nvidia was incredibly vague about what we should expect. They said that the 4070 Ti should beat the 3090 in terms of gaming performance while their laptop designs should offer a circa 2X-2.5X generational uplift on prior models. – Beyond this, however, in terms of any nice benchmarks or figures, Nvidia left us wanting!

It did seem, however, that Nvidia was rather keen to essentially gloss over a lot of key points and specifically so regarding the 4070 Ti. As noted above, they were exceptionally coy regarding its specifications (which would’ve confirmed this was the 4080 12GB), and they even disabled comments and the ability to participate in the live chat. – Something tells me Nvidia didn’t necessarily want a lot of the more negative feedback this announcement would’ve had to be overly visible.

They didn’t even give us a clear image of the GPU itself. It’s almost as if Nvidia wants the 4070 Ti to sneak onto the market without consumers paying too much attention to what it really is!

What wasn’t particularly impressive, however, was that the live stream didn’t manage to garner more than 8,000 concurrent viewers. Pretty slim numbers compared to the circa 70,000 watching when the 4090 was launched back in October!

Where Can I Learn More?

What we’ve mentioned above largely covers just the main key points confirmed during Nvidia’s CES 2023 showcase. Well, those we think you’d be most interested in at least. Presuming you want to learn more and maybe watch it in full, however, (it runs for about an hour) we’ve copied the link in above.
