Nvidia Raises Shield TV Pro Price by 50% to $299, Despite Using the Same 2019 Hardware
Raising the price of a device almost seven years after its launch is not common, but Nvidia has just done it with the Shield TV Pro.
The company raised the price of the Shield TV Pro from $199.99 to $299.99, a jump of almost 50% for a streaming player that arrived on the market at the end of 2019.
The curious thing is that the specifications of the device have not changed at all. Anyone who buys it today for $300 will receive exactly the same hardware as in 2019, which includes a Tegra X1+ chip, 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and its classic AI-powered upscaling to 4K, along with support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
Shield TV Pro Price Rises to $299 After Almost 7 Years
Nvidia justified this decision by pointing to the general increase in component costs across the industry, with a special focus on memory. Added to this is a change in the market for older semiconductors, such as LPDDR4 memory, which is slowly going out of production to make way for newer standards such as LPDDR5. This reduces supply, makes the remaining stock more expensive, and raises manufacturing costs for companies that still depend on these chips.
The situation with the brand’s streaming product lineup has also changed completely.
The cheaper standard Shield TV model — the classic tube-shaped version that debuted at $149 — was discontinued after being sold out in stores for months. Therefore, the only option right now is the Shield TV Pro.
Despite receiving regular software support over the years, the hardware never received a next-generation successor.
With no updated version available, Nvidia is heading toward the end of 2026 by keeping its well-known 2019 platform on store shelves, except that now it is much harder to justify buying it at this price.
