NVIDIA Releases Firmware Update for RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti to Fix Black Screen Issue on Restart
NVIDIA has released a firmware update to fix a potential issue with the RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti graphics cards on older systems. Some users were experiencing a black screen when restarting their PCs, but this problem is now being addressed by NVIDIA.
The problem mostly affects motherboards using Legacy mode. NVIDIA recommends that users ensure their BIOS is updated to the latest version (UEFI). If the motherboard doesn’t support UEFI, NVIDIA advises contacting the manufacturer for a legacy BIOS update.
How to Update the RTX 5060 or 5060 Ti Firmware
NVIDIA provides a firmware update tool to make the process easier. You can download the tool from this link. The tool will automatically check if the update is needed and guide you through the installation process.
If you encounter issues during the process (which requires restarting your PC), NVIDIA recommends the following steps:
- Completely power down your system before booting
- Ensure you are using the latest SBIOS from your motherboard vendor
- Ensure you are in UEFI boot mode and not Legacy/CSM
- Boot using an alternate graphics source (secondary card or integrated graphics)
- After powering on your system, wait for your operating system to load with the graphics driver installed
NVIDIA also suggests ensuring there are no Windows update attempts running in the background before performing the firmware update.
