NVIDIA’s Shield Tablet 2 is Powered by an Impressive Processor

The NVIDIA Shield tablet was generally considered a good all-around product, but encountered some overheating issues that eventually forced the company to issue a wide recall. Hopefully, NVIDIA will do a better job with the cooling system of the Shield Tablet 2, as this particular gadget will be powered by a Tegra X1 processor. The Tegra X1 features two quad-core processors for a total of 8 cores clocked at 2.2GHz. By comparison, the original Shield Tablet was packing a Tegra K1 CPU, which was a quad-core clocked at the same speed.

The Shield Tablet 2 will come with an 8-inch 1920×1200 display and run Android 5.1 Lollipop. Its battery is rumored to be powerful enough to provide about 10 hours of web browsing and video playback, although I imagine that gaming will shorten the lifespan of a single charge quite a bit. Other noteworthy details regarding the new tablet include a 4k display output, that will allow the user to game at a resolution of 3840×2160 with the help of a 4K-capable TV or display. As far as connectivity is concerned, we’re expecting to see a microSD slot, mini-HDMI ports and a micro-USB port.

The NVIDIA Shield Tablet 2 is expected to cost $299 for the Wi-Fi-only version, which is relatively affordable.
