Nvidia Urges Users to Update Drivers After Fixing High-Risk Security Flaws
Nvidia is urging all users to install the latest Game Ready drivers (version 591.59 or newer), depending on GPU architecture. The company has labeled this update as “must have” due to the fix of several vulnerabilities considered critical.
According to Nvidia’s latest Security Bulletin, at least four security flaws have been identified and rated with a “High” severity level. These issues affect a wide range of products, including GeForce, RTX, Quadro, NVS, and Tesla graphics cards. If left unpatched, the vulnerabilities could allow local or remote attackers to compromise a user’s system in multiple ways, leaving devices exposed if the latest drivers are not installed.
The identified risks include arbitrary code execution, which could allow an attacker to take control of a PC. Other threats involve privilege escalation, enabling access to restricted areas of the system, as well as data manipulation and denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, which could render a system unusable.
Support for Older Hardware
One notable aspect of this update is that Nvidia has not limited protection to its newest graphics cards. The company has also released specific updates, such as version 582.28, for older architectures including Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta. While these GPUs no longer receive modern gaming optimizations, they are still getting important security patches.
To keep systems protected, Nvidia recommends downloading the latest driver version through GeForce Experience or directly from the company’s official website.
