Nvidia’s GTX 580 production stopped

Not long after the GTX 680’s release, Nvidia is said to have stopped the production of its predecessor, the GeForce GTX 580 graphics cards.

Back in November 2010, the company released this product which became the fastest single-GPU graphics card for a year. At the time AMD had yet to responded with the Radeon HD 7900 series. This next generation of 28nm brought us the GeForce GTX 680 and the volumes of production at TSMC are looking good so far.

All in all, the GeForce GTX 580 has done its job, it has had quite a life and served its purpose well. Nvidia can therefore stop the production, it has already done so for the GTX 590, and leave the ‘left overs’ on the market, a price cut will certainly be of use in terms of sales.
