NZXT Grid+ V2 Digital Fan Controller Review

Installation & Performance

Setting up the Grid+ V2 is a pretty easy task. The Molex connector obviously connector to your power supply, then into the side of the Grid+ V2. The USB cable needs to connect to a USB 2.0 header on your motherboard, then into the MicroUSB port on the hub.

Obviously, your fans connect directly to your V2, so that much is self explanatory and there’s included cables to help you get some extra reach or compatibility should you need them.

Popping the unit into your system is pretty easy and the inclusion of velcro 3M pads means it’ll stay firmly in place, even if you mount it vertically behind your motherboard.

The desktop software really couldn’t be easier to set up and use. The layout is nice and clear and offers separate profiles and renaming of the individual fan channels to give you a better understanding of which one is which.  What I do like, is that you can create a custom fan profile for different temperatures, so you can have your CPU fan on super low until it hits a threshold, meaning you’re never taxing your fans harder than you need to. Of course, this takes a little trial and error to find what speeds provide you with the cooling performance required, but the payoff is that you can end up with a much quieter system, or run your fans that bit harder to maximise cooling performance.

You get a full readout of each fans performance, from the RPM, % speed and watts being drawn. The watts is the most important in my opinion, as if you’ve not maxed out the 30W that is available, you can always get some Y-splitters and add more fans to each channel, within reason of course. There’s really little else to this setup, how you use it can vary, but the core product is as simple easy to use as any other fan controller, albeit this one has a software interface rather than a physical control on your chassis.
