OnlyFans Backtracks on Banning *Ahem* ‘Adult’ Content

I feel somewhat obliged to start this by citing that I have never once frequented the ‘OnlyFans’ website. Whether you choose to believe me or not though, is a matter of your own opinion. Despite my lack of personal experience, however, I am fully aware of what the company does and how its live streaming members can generate a very lucrative source of income. However, earlier this week, its community was hit with the bombshell news that the platform was set to ban all ‘adult content‘ on its service.

Following a report via CNET, however, it appears now that, for reasons more than a little unclear, OnlyFans has decided to backtrack on that position (poor choice of words?). Well… At least for the moment.

OnlyFans Backtracks on ‘Adult Content’ Ban

Officially speaking, the reason for the intended ban was due to a dispute between OnlyFans and its financial services. Specifically, they claimed that the banks they were dealing with were (allegedly) somewhat reluctant to issue payments (which could then be forwarded to content creators) based on the subject matter utilised to generate it. – From a community standpoint, however, this left many angry that the platform had built all its success based primarily on its ‘adult entertainment’ sector and had then, somewhat unceremoniously, suddenly decided to take this away.

Given that many people make significant sums of money from the platform (I won’t tell you what doing!), you can appreciate both the anger and confusion this decision generated.

Keep Calm and Carry On?…

OnlyFans has now confirmed that the intended ban, set to be implemented this October, has now been rescinded, and, as such, things on the platform will continue now as they did before. Similar to the reasons for the initial announcement. However, the reason/s as to why this has now seen a u-turn is equally unclear. Albeit it is being suggested that the issue becoming public (and generating a lot of media attention) was a key factor in this problem being resolved or, at least temporarily, overcome.

Who knows… Maybe somebody important at the bank had a premium account.
