The original Borderlands still remains my favourite in the series so far, Borderlands 2 was and still is a lot of hardcore fun, and a great multiplayer game, but the desolate isolation that set the tone of much of the first title is still better in my opinion.
Now it looks like the original Borderlands on the PC may be getting a welcome comeback as the game developers work to free it from the restraints of SecuRom DRM. With the GameSpy servers now bust, the game couldn’t be played online, but with the introduction of a new patch, SteamWorks and more, the game will soon be up and running again.
It is nothing short of incredible to see the developers still putting keyboard time into making this game work again, especially this long after its release and I know I’ll be taking an online co-op run through the game once again as soon as it is fixed.
Tools are being set up to import keys to steam, as well as any DLC you have already purchased. A news ticker is being added to keep you informed of multiplayer restoration progress and no doubt a few general bug fixes too. The main menu of the game will now keep you informed and as soon as Steam-based multiplayer is available you’ll be able to jump right in.
