The problem is that petitions like this usually do not have any legal power. A Change.org petition mainly helps bring attention to an issue. For it to have any legal effect, the proposal would need to be presented to official government bodies.
It also seems unlikely that Sony will reverse its decision. According to reports, the factories the company used to produce game discs are already being converted for other purposes. Austrian news outlet ORF reported that Sony’s plant in Thalgau will be heavily affected by the change.
In fact, the factory is reportedly preparing to manufacture optical microlenses instead, with mass production expected to begin in 2027.
