The Overly Generic ‘Doom’ Cover Fits Virtually Any Game

Doom

Doom is one of the most iconic FPS games of all time, although it did have the advantage of being one of the very first games to kickstart the entire genre, giving it a distinct advantage for a lot of years. Now the game is set to return to our screens once again. Doom is currently pegged with a release date of May 13th, which isn’t particularly far away, but it’s just long enough to give the developer time to delay again; let’s hope they don’t.

The release date isn’t the only reason we’re hearing a lot about doom this week, however, as the artwork for the latest Bethesda bullet-em-up comes across as one of the most generic covers of all time. Following that infamous orange and blue theme that so many hundreds of game and movie boxes have adopted, the game’s logo can be swapped out for almost anything and still looks like it belongs.

How about adding him to Halo 5? Seems fine to me.

I think I’ve actually seen this guy in a few Final Fantasy games, have you?

OK, this one I’m not so sure about, but if you didn’t know who Professor Layton was, it’s still pretty convincing.

Well, that’s just an easy match up these days.

This definitely looks like something I’d be eager to play!

Scrap that, this is the one I really want to play. Running around with a sawn-off frying pan and causing chaos.

Gaming artwork can be quite generic, as we’ve seen here today, but it’s not the end of the world. Fortunately, we won’t have too long to wait for the release of the game and fingers are crossed around the world that it won’t be generic to play.

What was your favourite entry in the Doom series? For me, nothing will beat the original two games on MS-DOS.
