Overwatch Lunar New Year Event Starts February 8

Overwatch Lunar New Year Returns

Blizzard has now confirmed that the Lunar New Year event for Overwatch is set to return. This time it starts on February 8 as confirmed via the official Overwatch Twitter account. Just like last year, the Lunar New Year event follows the Chinese tradition. With 2017 being the Year of the Rooster, 2018 is the Year of the Dog.

What Can Fans Expect?

As usual new skins, emotes, sprays, and voice overs are expected following the theme. Unlike the newly added Blizzard World launch content however, these will only be available during the duration of the event. Considering how popular Orisa’s puppy emote from the recent Winter event is, other characters might be getting their own puppy emote as well.

In terms of skins, last year’s saw some characters get a Qipao outfit (such as Symmetra) or get Legendary skins from Chinese folklore (such as Roadhog’s Bajie skin or Winston’s Wukong skin). So new skins following a similar vein is expected. Especially with some new characters who missed last year’s event such as Moira and Orisa.

How Can Fans Get These Items?

Fans can either buy the new items with in-game currency or unlock them via lootboxes. Keep in mind that lootbox content generates after reception. So it is not possible to hoard loot boxes for this event. Plus, the event loot boxes are separate from regular loot boxes as they have a higher chance of getting event content.

Epic skins and emotes usually fetch for 75 to 250 credits depending on complexity. Meanwhile, Legendary skins and emotes range from 1000 to 3000 credits. All will be available only starting February 8.
