OWC, short for Other World Computing, plans to push Workstation SSDs such as their 2TB Mercury Viper SSD.
The Mercury Viper uses aluminium casing designed to fit in 3.5″ drive bays that are usually found in desktop systems. The drive’s capacity, according to Ars Technica, starts from 240GB and goes up to 2TB. OWC makes a promise of 600MB/s transfer rates.
The pricing isn’t finalized yet, but one shouldn’t be surprised that a 1TB SSD will carry a premium price point. OWC spokesperson told Ars Technica that they’ve designed Viper primarily for performance and capacity, not price.
