Payday 2, the sequel to the popular FPS cooperative shooter Payday: The Heist, has now reach around 1.6 million copies sold on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 since its launch on August 13th. 80% of the sales have been via digital download claim developers Overkill Software (subsidiary of Starbreeze Studios) and publishers 505 Games.
Payday 2 was apparently profitable just from pre-orders alone and now the developers and publisher will continue to split all future earnings 50/50.
For those who haven’t played Payday 2 the game is based on cooperating with friends or randomly assigned players to complete missions such as bank robberies and bank heists. The game received generally very positive reception from gamers and critics alike being described as a significant improvement over Payday: The Heist.
