PC Building Simulator 2 Review – A Practically Perfect Sequel

Overall Impressions

Something like PC Building Simulator 2 is clearly only going to appeal to a certain demographic. Those people, however, are going to love it. – While there are definitely still some tweaks still needed here and there, it’s definitely a huge improvement on the original PC Building Simulator. – And a real key emphasis of that has undoubtedly been placed on the ability to really dive deep this time with custom loop cooling and case customisation.

The biggest beauty, of course, is that you can do all this without spending a penny more than the initial cost of the game. And speaking of which…

How Much Does it Cost?

PC Building Simulator 2 is available to purchase now via the Epic Games Store for what I consider to be an incredibly reasonable £19.99. – Now, in terms of gameplay, you clearly shouldn’t expect a 200+ hour adventure Final Fantasy-esque gaming experience. Ultimately, this is a PC-building sim with a story mode kind of built around it.

Loving PCs as much as I do, however, I could easily see this being a thief of time. I would sit down and plan out a nice simple PC build, and before I know it, 5 entirely pleasurable hours will have passed! That’s some decent value for money for just a £19.99 outlay!

Final Thoughts!

If you already own the original PC Building Simulator, you might ultimately be wondering whether it’s worth spending money for what I’ll freely concede is pretty much the same ‘game’ but with a pretty hefty set of new features and improvements. Well, if you loved the original, then the answer is 100% yes.

Don’t come into this expecting anything mindblowingly new because, essentially, this is still mostly the same experience. PC Building Simulator 2, however, looks to take things to a new level with features, functionality, and general improvements that kick things up a notch. And for me, that’s the perfect sequel. Repeat everything the original did right, only make it better!

A key point though is does this teach you how to build a PC? Well, the answer to that, in somewhat basic terms, is yes. You’re dealing with real-world components, and, as you would have to do in the actual world, you have to take some time to consider what you’re doing. Plan out what components are going to be best suited to the task, budget, or what you hope to achieve and then attempt to execute it. – You may make mistakes, but PC Building Simulator 2 does typically tend to tell you how and why you ultimately went a bit wrong. – It’s even undoubtedly a useful tool for helping you understand how a PC works, and, when something goes wrong with it, determining where you should start looking first!

Overall, PC Building Simulator 2 is not going to be for everyone. For those of you who love PCs, however, and possibly want to learn more, this is a great and genuinely fun tool to have. And yes, I think I’m going to call this a tool rather than a game because while this does have some gameplay elements, ultimately, I consider PC Building Simulator 2 more of a fun learning experience.

Score

  • 9 out of 10 if you love PCs and hardware
  • 3 out of 10 if you have no interest whatsoever
