PC Gaming in Germany Falls 20% Since 2019

Recent figures that have come out of Germany show a steady decline in PC gaming over the last few years, now down 20% from its highest point in 2019. As this has been happening, mobile and tablet gaming has stayed relatively the same, while console gaming has been the only reliable market share gainer year after year, with 2023 to 2024 being its biggest increase yet.
This information comes from Game.de, a site representing the association of the German games industry. It reported on the momentum behind games consoles, suggesting that if current trends continue, consoles will become the dominant platform for gaming in Germany within a few years.

Consoles Success
Game.de reckons that this large uptick in console users is in large part thanks to continued innovations and pressure from major players like Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. For example, more optimised and superior versions of previous consoles have been released, such as the PlayStation 5 Pro or the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck OLED models.
With these latest figures showing that console users in Germany are soon going to take over smartphone gamers, who have somewhat stagnated over the last couple of years, maybe due to the predatory nature of mobile games.
PCs Failure
It’s fairly easy to tell why console gaming has risen in the last few years, but why has PC gaming dropped so significantly? Well, it may be due to the rising costs of PC hardware, such as graphics cards and CPUs, with it becoming increasingly more expensive to buy a system to run the latest games, along with games themselves rising significantly in price.
