Philips 27″ 5000 Series 27B1U5601 Monitor Review

Today, it’s all about business, with the Philips 27″ 5000 Series 27B1U5601 monitor. Designed to enhance productivity with its sharp visuals and versatile connectivity. It may not be the most exciting monitor ever, but sometimes you just need the right tool for the job. With a 27-inch IPS panel, it can deliver wide 178-degree viewing angles. It is rated for accurate colour reproduction, covering 101% of the sRGB and 89% of the NTSC colour gamuts, making it well-suited to SDR content in the office.
Philips Business Series
The QHD resolution of 2560×1440 ensures crisp and detailed images, offering a nice bump up from Full HD 1920×1080, but without going for the more expensive 4K 3840 x 2160 option. This should make it pretty flexible for office work, design, and daily productivity tasks, especially for having multiple windows open at once. Philips also tout features like LowBlue Mode and flicker-free technology, but they’re pretty common on monitors these days. With a brightness of 350 cd/m² and a dynamic SmartContrast ratio of 50,000,000:1, this monitor aims to deliver a comfortable and efficient user experience in a bright office environment.

Connectivity
While it may not be the ultra-fast OLED gaming monitors Philips is well known for, given its much lower cost, and more daily-work and productivity-focused features, it still has plenty of appeal. For those looking for a good monitor for work at home or in the office, it’s very well equipped. A key feature of this Philips monitor is its comprehensive USB-C docking capability. This single-cable solution simplifies connectivity by handling network connection via RJ-45, high-resolution video output, and data transfer. The USB-C port also provides up to 100W of power delivery, allowing users to charge their laptops directly from the monitor, as well as use the Ethernet and built-in webcam over the same Type-C cable, drastically reducing cable clutter for both Windows and Mac users.

Even More Connectivity
In addition to its display and connectivity features, the 27B1U5601 offers further convenience with multiple USB 3.2 ports, including a USB-C downstream port with 15W power delivery and USB-A ports with fast charging. Connectivity options include HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.4, and DisplayPort out for daisy-chaining. This makes it an ideal candidate for users at home who just want to dock their laptop to the monitor, but also makes it a perfect option for hot-desking setups.
