Philips has a new addition to its already expansive range of gaming monitors, with the introduction of the new 27M2N3500NF, a 27-inch Quad HD gaming monitor designed to meet the demands of modern PC enthusiasts and competitive gamers. It falls into their more premium Evnia series, but being built around an IPS panel, it still promises some impressive performance, but sits on the more affordable end of the Evnia lineup, with mini-LED and OLED models still dominating the more expensive end of the range. It’s designed to balance responsive gameplay for fast paced action and high refresh rates. At 1440p and 144Hz it’s more than meeting the needs of modern PC gaming, and it’ll do so without breaking the bank too.

This monitor brings several unique selling points to the table, heavily focused on competitive advantage and eye comfort. The integration of Smart MBR technology reduces motion blur to an absolute minimum, ensuring sharp visuals even during high-speed on-screen action for FPS, racing and other action packed games. It also features a Smart Crosshair and SmartImage game modes, allowing users to optimise the display for specific genres like first-person shooters or real-time strategy games. To aid long gaming sessions, Philips has included LowBlue Mode and a flicker-free design, reducing eye strain over time. Furthermore, the low input lag ensures that every mouse click and keyboard press translates to the screen instantly. Admittedly, a lot of this is common in many PC monitors these days, there’s nothing really revolutionary here, but it’s ticking the right boxes, and a good resolution and refresh rate are what really grab my attention here.

The monitor delivers a high contrast ratio of 1500:1, providing deep blacks and vibrant colours that you would expect from a good quality panel. It supports a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz over DisplayPort and 144Hz via HDMI, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of graphics cards and consoles, where it’ll run at 120Hz on HDMI anyway. Adaptive Sync technology is present to eliminate screen tearing and stuttering, while the peak brightness of 300 nits provides adequate luminance for most indoor setups and daytime usage. There is a HDR more, but the monitor uses W-LED backlight, so it’s going to lock the brightness to 100% for this, so don’t expect brilliant HDR contrast, but you’ll still get an expanded colour pallet with the monitor supporting 92% of DCI-P3 and 114% of sRGB.
