Philips Evnia 27″ 27M2N5901A Dual Frame Fast IPS Monitor Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Philips Evnia 27″ 27M2N5901A Dual Frame Fast IPS Gaming Monitor is available now from OCUK for a very reasonable £328.99, which admittedly isn’t “cheap” but it’s about half what the equivalent OLED would cost, and given you’re effectively getting both a 4K 160Hz monitor and a HD 320Hz monitor in one, I can’t help but feel the value here is nothing short of exceptional. With the built-in KVM switch, USB Type-C, speakers, RGB lighting and premium build quality, it’s a very well rounded package.

Overview

The Philips Evnia 27M2N5901A stands out as a genuine all-rounder, expertly crafted by Philips’ enthusiast sub-brand Evnia to cater to both the enthusiast PC gamers and the daily workers and content creators. This 27-inch display is defined by its cutting-edge Dual Mode technology, seamlessly combining high resolution and high refresh rate capabilities in one versatile package. Whether you are running visually dense strategy games or diving into frantic competitive esports titles, it is an ideal choice for the anyone who refuses to compromise.

Fast IPS

Powering the display is a high-performance Fast IPS panel, which ensures that despite the monitor’s focus on speed, image quality remains superb. This technology provides wide 178/178-degree viewing angles and excellent colour fidelity, making it highly accurate for media consumption and creative workflows. Crucially for gamers, the panel delivers a rapid 1ms grey-to-grey response time, which can be further boosted to an ultra-crisp 0.5ms using the Smart MBR feature to eliminate motion blur. Furthermore, with wide coverage of 95% DCI-P3 and 130% sRGB, confirmed by excellent factory calibration, this monitor is ready for professional use right out of the box.

Dual Refresh Rate

The dual refresh rate functionality is undoubtedly the headline feature, allowing users to select the ideal speed for their needs. When operating in Ultra HD, the monitor maintains an impressive 160Hz refresh rate, delivering a silky smooth motion without sacrificing visual quality. However, for those competitive gamers seeking an absolute edge in fast-paced shooters like CS:GO or Apex, to name but a few, the Full HD mode can be toggled to an astonishing 320Hz. This staggering speed drastically improves reaction times, cuts input latency, and keeps frantic on-screen action perfectly in focus, a true real-world advantage for anyone chasing elite competitive performance.

Build Quality

The Evnia 27M2N5901A maintains the brand’s premium design philosophy, presenting a stunning off-white and light grey aesthetic that looks high-end from every angle. It features slim bezels for an immersive viewing experience, a high-quality anti-glare coating that works well in well-lit environments, paired with strong brightness when its needed. The stand, with its subtle mixed plastic effect, retains a premium look and provides exceptional flexibility, with tilt, swivel, pivot, and a generous 130mm height adjustment. Furthermore, the striking geometric back panel, housing the dynamic Ambiglow lighting system, ensures this monitor looks fantastic even in open desktop setups.

Added Value

Beyond its core performance, the monitor is packed with thoughtful features that greatly enhance its functionality. Most notable is the integrated KVM switch and USB-C connection with 65W power delivery, allowing users to control two separate computers; such as a desktop and a laptop. Being able to connect a single set of peripherals and charge the laptop simultaneously is a huge win for those who work from home. The AI-Enhanced Ambiglow lighting system intelligently projects on-screen colours onto the wall behind, deepening immersion, while the Smart Gaming Tools, including Smart Crosshair, ShadowBoost, and Smart Sniper, provide in-game advantages. The connectivity is rounded out by the inclusion of powerful 2 x 5W stereo speakers that are actually pretty decent and DisplayPort and two HDMI 2.1 ports.

Should I Buy One?

At a current price of £328.99, the Philips Evnia 27M2N5901A offers what can only be described as exceptional value. You are effectively purchasing two monitors in one: a high-quality, factory-calibrated 4K 160Hz panel for visual fidelity and content creation workflows work, and a hyper-competitive 1080p 320Hz panel for elite-level gaming. When considering the comprehensive feature set, excellent aesthetics, and ergonomic, I think the price is simply outstanding. If your desktop lifestyle involves a blend of high-resolution work, single-player gaming, but you also desire high-frame-rate competitive sessions, this monitor is easily one of the best on the market right now, and easily one of my favorite monitors for 2025!
