Player Unknown Battlegrounds Update Adds 6+ Core CPU Support

The gaming sensation that is Battlegrounds continues to grab headlines. It’s becoming a staple of the game streaming diet for YouTube and Twitch, and the game’s sales continue to grow. While the player base is growing for this early access title, it does still need some work. Fortunately, the developers at Blueholes have been on the ball.

“PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS is a last-man-standing shooter being developed with community feedback. Players must fight to locate weapons and supplies in a massive 8×8 km island to be the lone survivor. This is BATTLE ROYALE.” – Steam

They released an update today that see the game get a big performance boost on some systems. The game is poorly optimised in its current state, so this kind of update is certainly welcome. The update adds new CPU optimisations, allowing for the use of 6+ compute cores. Obviously, that’s big news for those who just upgraded to the new Intel or Ryzen processors, which offer big core counts.

When you’re on a map with 100 players and a sprawling landscape, a powerful CPU is going to be a huge benefit. At least now if you’ve got more than four cores, you can get the most out of them with PUBG.

What Blueholes had to Say

“Today we look at what we have changed and fixed in our week 20 patch.
This patch will be deployed to the Test Servers on Wednesday, August 9th, and if everything is stable, to the Live Servers on Thursday.” – PUBG Community Team
