PlayStation 5 Price Increase in Select Markets Starting April 14
The PS5 Slim Digital model has seen a price increase of 50 euros, bringing its new price to 499.99 euros in Europe, 429.99 GBP in the UK, 749.95 AUD in Australia, and 859.95 NZD in New Zealand.
This price hike is significant, especially since the PS5 Slim Digital was previously cheaper than the version with a disc drive. With this change, the PS5 Slim Digital now costs the same as the physical edition, which includes a disc drive. Sony has made this decision to adjust prices in response to current economic challenges, including fluctuating currencies.
Impact on the Digital Model
The PS5 Slim Digital has always been less popular than the standard version with a disc drive. Many users still prefer the physical model, which is often more affordable and offers more advantages compared to the digital-only version. This is the second time in just a few years that the PS5’s price has increased.
Three years ago, the console’s price went up by 50 euros, bringing the original price of 399.99 euros to 499.99 euros, which adds up to a total price increase of 100 euros over the past four and a half years.
Good News for the Disc Drive Version
The price increase only affects the PS5 Slim Digital edition. The standard PS5 with a disc drive remains at the same price, meaning there’s only a 50-euro, 50-GBP, 50-AUD, and 50-NZD difference between the two models.
On a positive note for those who want the disc drive separately, the price has dropped. The disc drive, which was previously priced at 119.99 euros, £119.99, AUD $179.95, and NZD $199.95, is now available for 79.99 euros, £69.99, AUD $124.95, and NZD $139.95. This price reduction may make it easier for those who initially bought the digital-only model to upgrade to the disc version at a lower cost.
