PlayStation Earned Over $1.2 Billion from Its Games on Steam
According to estimates from Alinea Analytics, PlayStation has earned over $1.2 billion from its games on Steam, confirming the success of Sony’s multi-platform strategy, which has clearly been paying off in recent years.
Alinea Analytics calculated a total of more than $1.5 billion in revenue generated by PlayStation’s first-party titles on Valve’s platform, with Steam retaining at least $350 million as its share.
According to the report, the most successful PlayStation game on Steam is Helldivers 2. Since its launch in February 2024, the Arrowhead Game Studios shooter has sold 12.7 million copies, becoming one of the most surprising hits in recent years.
The second most successful game is Horizon Zero Dawn, with 4.5 million copies sold, followed by God of War with 4.2 million, Days Gone with 3.4 million, and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered with 2.7 million copies sold.
Enthusiasm Appears to Be Fading
In recent days, rumors have surfaced suggesting that Sony may reduce its PC efforts for single-player games, according to insider reports. In fact, Rhys Elliot, head of market analysis at Alinea, believes that Steam users’ enthusiasm for PlayStation’s first-party titles is starting to decline.
“The audience that was once excited to experience these games for the first time has largely been served,” Elliot stated. “Later releases naturally face smaller potential audiences, and our estimates clearly show this.”
The data supports this claim: the first God of War sold 2.5 times more copies than its sequel, God of War: Ragnarok, over a similar 400-day period on Steam. Likewise, Marvel’s Spider-Man sold twice as many copies as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in about 300 days.
