PlayStation Network Will Block Voice Chat for Users Who Don’t Verify Their Age in Some Countries
A few weeks ago, Sony announced that age verification would arrive on PlayStation Network. Now, this new system is getting ready to launch in selected countries, before being expanded to more regions later.
At first, it was only a warning, but now Sony is starting to take action. Players in England and Ireland are receiving an email confirming that age verification will soon be required to use some PlayStation Network features.
PSN Age Checks Could Limit Voice Chat and Messages in Some Countries
The affected features are mainly linked to communication, such as messages and voice chat. Without age verification, these features will not work.
Players who do not complete the verification will still be able to play games and use the other features of the console. Only messages and voice chat will be blocked.
According to the email, users will need to prove their age using one of the accepted methods. This could include a selfie, a photo of a valid document, or a mobile phone number.
For now, players can already complete the verification, but there is still some time before it becomes required for PSN communication features.
In other news, Sony has confirmed a new State of Play presentation that will include around 60 minutes of announcements focused on PlayStation 5. The event will take place on June 2 at 2 PM PT and 5 PM ET.
