PlayStation Will Require Age Verification for Some Online Features
PlayStation will soon require age verification for some online features on PS5. This was shared in a recent email sent by Sony Interactive Entertainment to users, as the company adapts to new rules focused on protecting minors in online interactions.
Other platforms like Discord have already introduced similar systems. These changes are part of a wider effort in different countries to better manage user data and confirm users’ real ages.
PlayStation Introduces Age Verification for Online Features
The age verification system will mainly apply to online interactions, such as voice chat, messaging, and other communication features. Sony explained that the goal is to provide safe and age-appropriate experiences for players and families, while still respecting everyone’s privacy.
The age verification system will be introduced globally and will be required to continue using communication services on PlayStation, including messages and voice chat.
Users who choose not to complete the verification process will still be able to access other features, such as games, trophies, and the PlayStation Store. However, their ability to communicate with others will be limited or completely disabled.
At the moment, Sony has not provided a deadline for when users must complete the verification.
In other news, British users are using Death Stranding’s Sam Porter Bridges to bypass new UK age-check laws on adult sites, exploiting Discord’s face verification system in an unusual loophole.
